118 50 Aims to be the First to Launch Directory Enquiries by Text
01/01/2008
118 50, the ‘nifty’ directory enquiries number announced the launch of the first text directory enquiries service on the Irish market. It means that customers will now have the option to access directory enquiries for the first time by text, which will provide increased flexibility, efficiency and accessibility to directory enquiries services for Irish consumers. The service will be available from 118 50 in February 2008 at an introductory price of 50c per text received by the caller from 118 50.
Commenting on the launch of the SMS service William Ostrom, Communications Director at 118 50 said: “Irish people are some of the niftiest texters in Europe, sending well over half a billion texts every month. From next month, 11850 will offer greatly increased access for these mobile users.”
William continued: “If you’re in a situation where you need a number fast and can’t talk freely, such as a lecture, a meeting or on the way to work on the Luas, you can now text 118 50 and we will text the number back to you. We are delighted 11850 looks set to be the first directory enquiries number in the Irish market to provide this useful new service.”
The 118 50 SMS service will operate in the same manner as regular texting. Customers simply text their request to the recipient 118 50 and 118 50 will then reply with the requested number via SMS. Customers will be charged 50c on receipt of the number by text from 118 50. If no reply is received after 10 minutes, no charge will apply and a free message will state this, along with the requested number.
118 50 will support the launch of this service with television advertising.
